Principal Power of the CMB

چکیده
We study the physical limitations placed on CMB temperature and polarization measurements of the initial power spectrum by geometric projection, acoustic physics, gravitational lensing and the joint fitting of cosmological parameters. Detailed information on the spectrum is greatly assisted by polarization information and localized to the acoustic regime k = 0.02 − 0.2 Mpc with a fundamental resolution of ∆k/k > 0.05. From this study we construct principal component based statistics, which are orthogonal to cosmological parameters including the initial amplitude and tilt of the spectrum, that best probe deviations from scale-free initial conditions. These statistics resemble Fourier modes confined to the acoustic regime and ultimately can yield ∼ 50 independent measurements of the power spectrum features to percent level precision. They are straightforwardly related to more traditional parameterizations such as the the running of the tilt and in the future can provide many statistically independent measurements of it for consistency checks. Though we mainly consider physical limitations on the measurements, these techniques can be readily adapted to include instrumental limitations or other sources of power spectrum information.

Full covariance of CMB and lensing reconstruction power spectra
CMB and lensing reconstruction power spectra are powerful probes of cosmology. However they are correlated, since the CMB power spectra are lensed and the lensing reconstruction is constructed using CMB multipoles. We perform a full analysis of the autoand cross-covariances, including polarization power spectra and minimum variance lensing estimators, and compare with simulations of idealized f...
متن کاملMeasuring the primordial power spectrum: Principal component analysis of the cosmic microwave background
We implement and investigate a method for measuring departures from scaleinvariance, both scale-dependent as well as scale-free, in the primordial power spectrum of density perturbations using cosmic microwave background (CMB) Cl data and a principal component analysis (PCA) technique. The primordial power spectrum is decomposed into a dominant scale-invariant Gaussian adiabatic component plus ...
متن کاملParameterized Post-Friedmann Signatures of Acceleration in the CMB
We extend the covariant, parametrized post-Friedmann (PPF) treatment of cosmic acceleration from modified gravity to an arbitrary admixture of matter, radiation, relativistic components and spatial curvature. This generalization facilitates the adaptation of Einstein-Boltzmann codes for solving CMB and matter perturbations in the linear regime. We use such a code to study the effect of metric e...
متن کاملPrincipal Component Analysis and Large-Scale Correlations in Non-Coding Sequences of Human DNA
We have calculated a full set of second-order correlation functions of nucleotides in noncoding DNA. They are found to be independently invariant in regard to permutations of A and T, and also C and G. Considering correlation functions as a 4 x 4 matrix with a symmetrical basis, we have found the principal components-objects with zero cross-correlations. These three principal components are pre...
متن کاملSeparating the kinetic SZ effect from primary CMB fluctuations
In the present work, we propose a new method aiming at extracting the kinetic Sunyaev-Zel’dovich (KSZ) temperature fluctuations embedded in the primary anisotropies of the cosmic microwave background (CMB). We base our study on simulated maps without noise and we consider very simple and minimal assumptions. Our method essentially takes benefit from the spatial correlation between KSZ and the C...
